December’s edition of the monthly Late Shift program at the Martin Gropius Bau is being curated by artist Leila Hekmat. It is dedicated to the studio collaboration with the Forecast mentoring program, a platform to foster and support the work of artists whose working practice stands out as being particularly innovative. One of this year’s mentors is renowned conceptual artist and fashion designer Hussein Chalayan, whose practice is situated at the point where architecture, philosophy and anthropology meet, with his work questioning and deliberately blurring the boundaries between these disciplines. In collaboration with Forecast and the HTW Berlin, Hussein Chalayan presents his film ANAESTHETICS: “In eleven chapters, he shows how violent our society really is. This violence is institutionalized through rituals, codes of behavior and artificial anesthesia. An unusual work that is occasionally rather lugubrious, but which confronts us with our own customs.” (IFFR) (Stefanie Schulte Strathaus)
